Well,
I had plenty of time to ponder these wonderful facts while cruising at a
boring 60 mph to Mosport in Canada
and back. All the while with my foot to the floor and my F150 pickup getting
a wallet-busting 7 mpg. |
|
|
|
|
Earlier
this summer I had bought an enclosed trailer
to haul my 911 and track goodies. I love the trailer. Its simply great to
drive home from a race weekend, park the trailer and go have a beer. No
need to unload all the race crap until next weekend or later. However, it
turned out that towing with my F150 wasn't the ideal situation. |

|
While
the F150 had all the goodies: 5.4 V8 with towing
package, etc., the maximum towing rating was for 8000 lbs. With the car
and all the crap, the trailer was about 7000. Plus it was a short bed. So
life to and from the track consisted of crappy gas mileage (looking
every 100 miles for a station); driving very s l o w l y - maxed
out at a scary 70 mph, usually 60-65; and being pushed around by
bully tractor trailers - aerodynamically speaking (scary). |

So,
time to do something about it. That something turned out to be a 2002 (left-over-
read 'get this thing off my lot - let's make a deal') Ford
F250, long-bed, 4 door super-cab (extended) with the 7.3L Powerstroke diesel
- You know, a real man's truck! No SUV's for
me, that's for Wankers! Where's my Red Man! Time for a chew... |
