The 2002 Project

The 1970 Euro 2002 BWM has joined the Alpine Garage. While a decent daily driver, after many owners there are some things that need to be done. I want to restore the car to a nice standard, but not a concours standard. These pages will document the jorney along the way. Latest updates will always be at the top here. If you want to follow it from the beginning, start at the bottom and work your way up.

Ti Airbox
November 2008 - Work continues. Found a nice NOS round fog light in the Netherlands. Upgraded the dash lights to LEDs. Fixed the odometer. Powdercoated the sway bars and replaced the bushings and hardware. Installed the Alpina styled Ti Air box. details and pics here
October 2008 - Time for some cosmetic upgrades. Scored some nice new Alpina badged floor mats from Europe; added a 2002ti badge to the trunk; and a nice Alpina wooden shift knob. Won a Ti Airbox on Ebay Germany to open up those Webers under the hood. It, along with the swaybars were sent off to be powdercoated. Meanwhile, the trunks looking a bit ratty, let's spruce it up.
Bavarian Styling
September 2008 - Replaced broken plastic grill slats with correct early car grill. Added a German plate for good measure. PA doesn't care about front plates. Time for the replacement of the Di-lithium Crystal generator aka the monster fuel pump. That went fairly smoothly (not). Some small issues resulted in the first rally I took part in (120 miles in the country) taking over 3 weeks to complete. Details on the jump Oh yeah, redid the ignition system, new plugs, wires, rotor, cap and Pertronix electric ignition in the distributor while tracking down the fuel issues.
August 2008 - So the fuel pump wasn't job #1. A bad hub and stub axles sidelined me for a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, while waiting for parts, replaced the rotted muffler with a new dual-tipped Ansa, replaced the 4point drivers belt with a correct period Klippan 3 point from a 71 Alfa Romeo. Finally the hub parts show up and it's back into the garage for some quality knuckle busting time.

December 2008 - The Iceman commeth, and with no heat in the car, time for some garage time. Heater box repair/restoration took about 3 weeks plus some other stuff, "while I'm already in there ..."
